Is it legal to hire a new employee without interviewing all internal applicants first?

legal
justincunnane asked:

I work at a corporation. I applied for a position, and haven’t been granted an interview yet. I read a circulated email that stated they were planning on bringing on a new employee soon to fill this role. It is legal for my company to hire a new employee and not grant me an interview for this position even after i sent a posting to human resources?

Of course it is. A company is not obligated to hire from within. They are totally within their rights.

It’s absolutely legal. Sometimes a company just feels like it needs some “new blood” or a fresh approach in a particular position. Some positions also require particular education elements or prior experience.

What you can do is to express your disappointment that you were not more seriously considered for the position, and ask what specific things you can do to increase your chances for advancement.
