Is it legal to ride in the back of a pickup in a state where there is a seat-belt law?

legal
craigmont asked:

A friend of mine lives in Aberdeen, Washington. He says he sees lots of high school kids rideing in the back of pickup trucks. Is it legal because there has never been seatbelts in the bed of the truck, or is it illeagal?

It depends on the local laws. In PA, you could only if your were over the age of 18 and the truck was under 35mph.

Your state laws will vary. Here in GA 16 & over can ride in the back, 18 & over can ride in the back on the interstate highways.

It is illegal. Some places are starting to crack down on that. A $25 fine for each person without a seatbelt.

hell ya!!! especially in those states not even animals can ride in the back unless secured.

In many states, it’s legal to ride in the back as long as they’re over 18. But a few states (such as Michigan) have made it illegal to ride in the bed because there are no seats, and they wrote the seatbelt law to say “passengers in the rear seat(s)”. Since there are no seats, they are in violation of the seat belt law and will get fined $65/person.

    Washington State Law.

Is it legal for someone to ride in the back of a pickup truck?

Yes, as long as they are seated inside the bed and all of the seats in front are in use.
