  1. D L Says:

I would pay a DUI lawyer if I were absolutely innocent of drinking and not under any controlled substance…and it can be PROVEN. If this isn’t a first offense, I would think twice, and just pay the charges if it would save me the headache.

Probably, yes. In this jurisdiction, an attorney can often get a low BAC, first offense reduced to reckless driving. (Some jurisdictions are stricter, though.)

Definitely get an attorney if it’s not your first DUI, you drive for a living, or you have another open case.

  4. MSAD Says:

It’s the only chance you have of getting the charges reduced. You won’t get them reduced on your own.

In my state, the lawyer goes over all the paperwork and evidence for the arrest and looks for errors. And there is a lot of paperwork with a dui arrest. If he can find a big enough mistake then he can try and get the charges reduced.

If you have friends in law enforcement or the court system, ask around and find out who the best dui lawyer in your area is.

But, expect to pay a $5000 retainer to get started. It’s not going to be cheap.

Only you can decide if it’s worth it.

  5. laughter_every_day Says:

Sometimes the lawyer can do nothing and sometimes they can plea bargain (once they know the flaws in the case) and sometimes they can get an acquittal. One hires a lawyer to find out if there are flaws in the case. There are hundreds of potential flaws. Some related to innocence and some not.

PAYING THE FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS IN FINES AND GOING TO JAIL FOR A MONTH FOR THE DUI WILL AT MOST COST YOU JUST THAT A FEW HUNDRED DOLLARS BUT GETTING AN LAWYER WILL COST YOU THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS
