What are the legal consequences for a person slipping someone else a laxative into a drink?
Mike C asked:
If one person gave another person a laxative without their knowledge, what sort of legal consequences could the offender be facing, assuming the victim could prove it in court?
What would the charges be?
In this particular situation, it was a prank among teenagers and could be proven by 6-8 eye witnesses.

If it could be proven, via witnesses or a confession, and the amount of the laxative was also able to be known, it could be severe. If was a prank, among teenagers, you could still get in big trouble if it was able to be proved that you had a motive in mind.

Charges would start with assault and battery. Depending upon the circumstances and the intent of the actor, it could go up from there.
If this was a practical joke on a healthy teen and not a hate crime, there may be no charges if there was no lasting harm.
