What are the legal requirements for home schooling grade school age kids?

Here are the laws and regs for Illinois:
Homeschools in IL are considered to be private schools; as long as you are educating your daughter according to her ability, and you keep appropriate records, you should be fine.

My suggestions are to find a local Home School group or co-op or support group. Also try hslda.org –home school legal defense associtation. They will also have the information you need plus a lot more. I homeschooled my 3 children for 6 years in CT. The state had regulations regarding homschooling but the requirements weren’t “law” so we were really free to homeschool as we saw fit. We really only needed to deal with the local school system, its probably that way in most states too.

Illinois does have requirements see website below. A good homeschool curriculum is K-12 which is computer based. It is free if you enroll through your states school system and you get free computers. But if you don’t want to be bothered at all with the school system then you can purchase their program on your own which is the K-12 Internatioal. Check out the websites it may be helpful. Good Luck
